Our Allies

Our collaboration with a growing number of individuals and organizations, combined with the strength of our allies, has propelled our progress towards equality and justice.

In Nevada, for example, labor unions and business leaders in the gaming industry lobbied the state assembly to override the governor’s veto of domestic partnership legislation.

Nationally, we saw an ongoing and greater commitment to work together. The National Education Association (NEA) reinforced its long-standing commitment to human and civil rights by releasing a report educating school administrators on the best practices to use when dealing with, and combating the harassment of LGBT students. The NAACP and AARP created task forces to work on LGBT issues.

With the inspiration and leadership of some long time pro-LGBT corporations, the Gill Foundation and Weber Shandwick published “Business of Change,” a resource guide focused on corporate-nonprofit collaboration. The guide promotes corporate investment in nonprofits working to secure equality for the LGBT community. Click here to view and download the Business of Change resource guide.
